The Writer’s Room
A vintage leather-clad grotto tucked away behind Las Palmas club, The Writer’s Room is a destination LA speakeasy within the city’s modern, super-sleek bar and club scene. Once the modest backroom to Musso & Frank Grill, The Writer’s Room draws its name from local rumours that writers Faulkner, Chandler and Fitzgerald all used to enjoy a drink or two back here. The exclusive vibe is brought back to life by interior designer Gulla Jonsdottir, who has created a sexy boutique décor that yearns for the old days of Hollywood – when customers went to sip cocktails in a 1920s elevator car-cum-daybed or summon service by wall switch. Mixologist Daniel Nelson creates an altogether more contemporary take on this theme for his cocktail menu, taking inspiration from the LA’s diverse neighbourhoods and shaking up carbonated coconut water and Korean pear to add a little something different to celebrated classics.
