Hg2 : The Hedonist

Malibu Beach Inn

Media mogul David Geffen’s 47-room inn has undergone multimillion-dollar renovations that have only upgraded its considerable Carbon Beach cachet with a masculine-mellow, surf-chic design scheme. Though it still seems a bit like a work in progress – the rooms and furnishings don’t quite equal that of other hotels in Los Angeles – aesthetic touches like the hand-painted bath tiles, private balconies, high-tech amenities, and photorealisitic artwork by Glenn Ness, as well as its proximity to Pepperdine University, the Malibu Country Mart, and historic Adamson House, are a plus. But what you’re really shelling out serious clams for here is the shoreline steps away – though technically the highly coveted stretch is a public beach, non-guests pay $75 daily for access at the inn’s Carbon Beach Club.
