Viceroy Santa Monica
How is this luxe LA hotel both ‘cosmopolitan’ and ‘shagadelic’ simultaneously? Much credit goes to Kelly Wearstler’s quirky design, which somehow marries veddy colonial British formality with a mad Mod 60s sensibility, united in an unexpected yet alluring colour scheme of parrot green, driftwood gray, and wavecrest white – it’s as pleasing to gaze at as it is to stay there. Everything flows fluidly into the next eye-catching attraction, from the minimalist front desk to the chic Cameo Bar (named for the oversized brooch dominating the lobby wall) into china-lined Whist restaurant out onto the posh pool and cabanas and back in again. No wonder it serves as a hotbed for fabulous locals seeking a cosmo, a shag, or both. And who better to advise on the hippest hotels in Los Angeles than the locals?
