Jon & Vinny’s
Jon & Vinny’s in Fairfax is a sleek, well-oiled machine – well-sourced extra virgin olive oil, that is. The food here is a modern take on old school Italian, with all manner of pizzas and pastas adorning the moreish menu. But it’s fresh, inspired. It’s Italian food for the well-fed foodies of Los Angeles.
Pastas here are made fresh and decorated with fennel sausage and cavolo nero, unctuously rich six-hour ragu, or silkily wrapped in an emulsion of pepper, parmesan, and egg. Pizzas, meanwhile, come topped with house-made chorizo, locally-made burrata, vodka sauce, or smoked mozzarella. Even little gem lettuce makes an appearance on the “Salad Days” pizza. And the antipasto and starter selection runs the full gamut, from fried mozzarella in Italian breadcrumbs to charred shishito peppers, grilled broccolini with golden raisins, and marinated olives. And that’s just at lunch and dinner.
Thanks to the vision of chef-owners, Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo, Jon & Vinny’s is actually open every day from breakfast through to dinner. In the early hours, the menu cracks out winning dishes like buttermilk pancakes and market berries, olive oil fried eggs with grilled tuscan kale, crispy potato, nduja, and preserved Meyer lemon, and granola. There are breakfast pizzas (onto which you can add grilled Nuske’s bacon for added oomph) and all manner of sweet treats, including pastries and cookies. So, really, no matter what time of day you visit, Jon & Vinny’s will deliver. Actually, if you don’t fancy sitting in the stylish dining room (all blonde wood and happy diners as far as the eye can see), you can actually have them deliver…
