Little Beach House Malibu
The Little Beach House Malibu is what everyone dreams their own beachfront property would be like. The interior walls are white (the better to reflect all that bright beachside light) and lined with contemporary art – originals, prints and photographs. Well-trodden, but luxuriously made rugs lay in your path from room to impeccably decorated room. Wicker and the gleam of polished wood abounds, and the abundant leaves of luscious green plants sway slightly in the breeze – many doors swing open to reveal nothing but horizon, so close is the water. Step out onto the decking and you can enjoy the sight more directly, walking along wooden slats that give the odd compelling creak.
While it may not be yours per se, it is a Soho House clubhouse so there’s a sense of belonging regardless. Once you get through the doors – if you get through the doors – you can sip housemade tonics and bespoke cocktails in the indoor bar, which, from the marble countertops to the metal accents, gleams. At breakfast you can, in true Malibu fashion, knock back a green juice or two and enjoy all manner of healthy “bowls” (acai, match, muesli – you name it, they’ve got). Or you could go for some indulgently soft scrambled eggs with black truffle, the choice is yours. As the day draws on, the menus on offer expand to include Wagyu beef tartare and oysters, flatbreads and cheeseburgers, lobster and ceviche.
Sundowners are, of course, best enjoyed al fresco on the terrace, watching the light fade as you look out over the sweep of sea. It might not be your beach house, but the Little Beach House Malibu is a beautiful dream of one.
