A labyrinth of a bar in Madrid: you could hide away in El Barbu for hours and feel totally cut off from the outside world. The further you go inside El Barbu, the darker it gets, and the more cave-like it feels. Bare brick walls and spiral staircases are softly lit with neon pinks and purple, and are decorated with drapes and pieces of fabric.
Love-struck couples take advantage of the dark corners and velvet couches, while more sociable types sip cocktails at the bar. Downstairs, there’s more of the same, with even more intimate corners to explore. The place gets busier the later it gets.
