Viva La Vida
Viva La Vida is a beautifully situated little bistro in Madrid among the tree-lined Plaza de Paja square, this stylish black and white interior New York-style eatery makes use of a sunny outdoor terrace with aluminium garden furniture. Viva La Vida was designed by Jorge Varela in a minimalist Zen spirit, which is both cool and calm without feeling pretentious.
An indoor patio garden uses natural materials such as wood, bamboo, black and white rocks and pebbles, emphasising the general yin and yang motif which permeates softly throughout the building. Soothing chill-out grooves play while enthusiastic Argentine waitresses hover around your table.
The healthy house specials include a free range egg wrapped in a crisp filo pastry jacket, red tuna steak tartar dressed with Modena vinaigrette and avocado or the rich-flavoured gula fish salad bought fresh at the local market.
