One of Madrid’s most beautiful hotels that exudes charm and prestige, the Hotel Orfila is a member of the exclusive Relais & Chateaux group. This 19th-century palace, in a leafy residential street in the Chamberí district, was converted to the Hotel Orfila in the 1990s but still retains palatial ambitions. The lobby, with huge floral displays and chaise longues, has welcomed a plethora of international dignitaries and VIPs, but the highly professional staff charmingly treat all guests with equal reverence. With only 32 rooms and 12 suites, the service is particularly personal. All of the rooms are different and exquisitely decorated; those with attic-style sloping ceilings have the most character. Equiped with hydro-massage baths, the usual array of high-tech gadgets are discreetly tucked away so they don’t interfere with the traditional design. To top it off all guests are welcomed with a bottle of cava.
