Room Mate Mario
Room Mate Mario was the first of this ever-expanding chain of home-grown hotels in Madrid, which have plumped for the interesting approach of personifying each establishment with its very own character. Room Mate Mario, we are told, is ‘a music composer and loves cinema’, whose friends include Alberto Iglesias and Nawja Nimri – the idea being, of course, that if that’s what you’re into, you’ll fit right in. The public the hotels are aiming for are the thirty-something, design-savvy crowd, who will enjoy the decoration from local luminary Tomás Alia, who has gone for black and white schemes for the 54 bedrooms and a clever use of light throughout. The location of this particular branch couldn’t be better, given that it is in a pretty and peaceful street, which has the Ópera square on one side, and the Gran Vía on the other.
