La Piazzetta is a little Italian restaurant in the Plaza Chueca, a square in Madrid that constantly buzzes with activity. The focal point of the gay quarter, it’s home to fishmongers, fruit and veg shops, so-called ‘old-man bars’, gay bars, and now, thanks to La Piazzetta and La Dolce Piazzetta, two top-notch Italian eateries. La Piazzetta is a smart restaurant, complete with terrace, run by Ignazio Deias, the man behind the popular Boccondivino.
The interior is a tasteful mix of beige, wood and mirrors, with plenty of natural light streaming in from the windows that face out onto the square. At lunchtimes the restaurant fills with office types, while at night it has more of a mixed crowd, reflecting the different tribes who frequent the area. The menu focuses on pastas and vegetables, and is complemented by an excellent wine list.
If it’s just a snack or a sweet treat you’re after, then pop across the square to La Dolce Piazzetta, where you’ll find a selection of sumptuous pastries to enjoy. A must for a late summer’s evening, where you can enjoy this excellent food from the comfort of the terrace.
