Hg2 : The Hedonist

Casa de Campo and the Telerifico

Casa de Campo is a huge, 4,500-acre woodland on the western side of the River Manzanares and is home to the city’s zoo, swimming pools, tennis courts, a boating lake, funfair and cafés. Once you stray from the main roads, it becomes pretty wild, with large stretches of woods and gullies.

You’ll only be able to cover a small part of it by foot, or even by bike, but take the Teleférico cable car from the edge to the middle and you’ll get a better idea of the sheer size of this city wilderness. If you look carefully, you’ll also spot the semi-clad prostitutes loitering among the trees and bushes. Day and night, female and transvestite prostitutes parade their wares along the main roads, but they don’t deter the locals from enjoying their picnics or afternoon strolls.
