You’d never really notice this Kasbah Agafay members’ club in Marrakech if it wasn’t for the funky lanterns that hang incongruously from the ancient roof outside. A beautifully restored 15th-century riad, it functions as guesthouse and restaurant as well as a private members’ club open to non-members (a reservation is a must; don’t just turn up).
The space inside is formal but elegant, and the structure of the riad is slightly idiosyncratic in that the main courtyard is on the first floor (there’s also a roof terrace). Ascend a narrow stairwell and enter a world of colourful stucco detailing and restored features, enjoy a drink and a cigar in the small bar-fumoir, or browse through one of the cultural books in the library.
The venue also organizes regular art exhibitions and parties, although some of these are accessible to paid up members only. You can book for dinner (Moroccan cuisine) here as well, if you fancy making an evening of it.
