Le Comptoir Darna
Le Comptoir is more famous as a restaurant than as a bar, but the bar area – located up the sweeping staircase from the main restaurant – is an elegant and entertaining place to go for a drink in Marrakech. In fact, Le Comptoir’s glamorous and chic design and party atmospheremake it more appealing than many other more ‘dedicated’ bars around town – which perhaps explains why it’s one of the few places that manages to seem vibrant even on weekdays. It’s decked out in the same manner as the restaurant – curvaceous, stylish, low-lit, comfortable – and you have the benefit of hearing a more considered mix of music here than elsewhere. In keeping with the overall concept of the place, the drinks are fashionably pricey, but not much more than other hotspots. You can also slink back down the stairwell and out into the garden courtyard if you prefer some horizontal cushion-lounging, although on busy nights you may have to wait a while to get noticed by staff. Reserving a table in the bar area in advance is also a good idea unless you’re happy to sit at the bar or stand and watch the scene from the top of the stairs.
