Hg2 : The Hedonist

If it wasn’t for the uniformed man loitering casually at the door and the occasional expensive car parked outside, you could easily mistake one of the loveliest boutique hotels in Marrakech, Caravanserai, for any other traditional village house – from the outside. The 200-year-old building has been renovated in spectacularly authentic fashion, constructed to fit in seamlessly with its surroundings, which happen to be a tiny Arabic village several miles outside Marrakech. As nondescript as the outside of Caravanserai may be, the inside is bursting with the ever-fertile imagination of legendary designer/architect Charles Boccara. The 12 suites and five standard rooms (four doubles, one single) – simple, charming, stylish – are arranged around a courtyard dominated by a large heated pool. Flanking the pool is a cosy restaurant/bar area (Moroccan and French menu) on one side and a small and peaceful designer garden on the other. There’s also a hammam and assorted terraces offering majestic views of the Atlas and the Palmeraie.
