Riad Les Yeux Bleus
Decorated with undeniable flair by interior designer Willem Smit, the Riad Les Yeux Bleus – found in the Bab Doukkala neighbourhood of Marrakech’s medina – is a triumph of style and substance, where traditional features and modern styling mix with aplomb.
The eight luxe guestrooms at Riad Les Yeux Bleus are kitted out in a paint-box-like array of colours, each individually styled, all beautiful. Rich cobalt walls are adorned with decorative bronze bowls here. Renovated furniture’s painted a distressed cherry red, or upholstered in sumptuous fabrics in hot pink there. And in one room, sunflower yellow walls are set against wicker baskets and the gleaming gold tones of decorative plates. Some rooms have fireplaces, others look out on the pool. But they all have chic en-suite bathrooms with tadelakt covered walls and air conditioning. Taken together, it’s a gorgeous renovation – one that’s been completed with sympathetic understanding of the building’s history, and a serious splash of style.
But it doesn’t stop with the guestrooms; the hotel has been designed with decadence in mind. Elsewhere in the riad, guests can bask on the sun terrace, recline next to the pool, or relax in the library. And massages and hammam treatments are available on request, as are delicious traditional Moroccan meals. It’s a heady experience of colour, comfort and style at the Riad Les Yeux Bleus and, with the bustle of the souqs and the Jamaa el Fna a few minutes away, it’s convenient to boot.
