The influence of Asian cuisine has slowly been seeping into Morocco and undoubtedly the best of the Thai restaurants in Marrakech is the Amanjena’s Thai restaurant, rather unimaginatively names the Amanjena Thai. Vital items are flown in especially from Thailand so that dishes at Amanjena Thai really do taste as good here as they do in Bangkok. The best spot to dine (if it’s nice) is on the terrace next to the pool. Choose from a reasonably elaborate selection that includes Thai green curry, stir-fried squid, king prawns and salads, or if you’re not in the mood for Thai food try the less exotic but still tasty options: sandwiches, gazpacho soup and burgers. There’s a great wine list and, weather permitting (usually May to September), tables are also set up near the pool in the evenings too. Drawbacks are the cost of a taxi ride out here and back, and the fact you can’t use the pool unless you’re a guest – it’s quite frustrating to watch people splashing around on a hot day after your meal and know you can’t join in. Best perhaps to combine a lunch with use of the expensive spa/hammam facilities.
