Jnane Tamsna is one of the more popular villas out in the Palmaraie, not only because of its seductive architecture and design features, but also because of the vast organic gardens, which lend the place a unique atmosphere of genuine tranquillity. The Tamsna gardens have a practical use too in that they provide many of the ingredients for the kitchen, which recently opened its doors to the public. In the summer, tables are set outside on a serene stretch of patio next to the main house. There’s no menu as such. You are simply seated and attended by elegant waiters, who serve up three sumptuous courses plus wine (for an extra charge) and coffee. The food, customized versions of Mediterranean, French, Moroccan and Senegalese dishes, leans towards the wholesome and nutritious, and is prepared by five different chefs, including three women, an Australian and a former executive chef of Quinta do Lago Four Seasons. It’s a trip to get out to Jnane Tamsna, of course, but the unique environment and delicious food make it more than worthwhile, especially at lunchtime when you can also splash around in one of the villa’s pools for the afternoon or even use the tennis courts. On colder days and evenings, meals are served inside the house in an equally tranquil and urbane environment.
