Mont Joly
Mont Joly may be a short ski away from the runs in Megève on the St. Gervais/St. Nicholas side of the lift map, but it’s worth it. The Épaule lift takes you to 2,350-metres – the highest point on the Evasion circuit – and opens up a number of on- and off-piste routes, most of which should be tried with a guide as the terrain is steep and the conditions deceptive. Head to the left of the chair lift towards St. Nicholas; further on the left is an area called Le Triangle, which is superb in the right conditions. Unless you know where you are, don’t stray far from this route as there are cliffs lower down where you will get stuck. The correct route, however, takes you down to La Croix du Christ chair. Alternatively, take a southerly route to Les Contamines; there are still hidden cliffs, but it’s not as steep.
