Monty’s is among the well known bars in Miami as the only one that overlooks the South Beach marina. The building looks like a tacky burger joint when approached by road, but the pool-side bar area furthest from the restaurant must be judged on its own merit.
rnThe bar sits below a thatched palm roof and is only yards away from the lines of budget powerboats that serve as its backdrop. Don’t be tempted to swim in the pool, as all sorts of things, including cocktails and intoxicated birthday boys, are thrown in after dark.
rnMonty’s attracts the kind of weekend drinker that likes to start early, so happy hour on a Friday evening is the best time to see Monty’s in full flow. It also attracts the weekday early drinker for that matter, starting its four-hour happy hour session at 4pm daily.
rnOysters, clams and shrimp are also available at the bar. This is also a suitable place for a drink after a scuba-diving or fishing trip.
