Anyone who’s a bit jaded with the whole party scene may very well want to check out Mekka – it’s four (or five) clubs in one, each with an individual mood and soundtrack. Mekka occupies the central space (with the largest bar area), observed from above by the DJs spinning atop a gigantic boom box. Goddess is slinky and sultry, and Forbidden vaguely brings to mind an unnerving combination of bondage and the Far East. Perhaps the most fun can be had at Vibe, light and funky and with a democratic feel that allows the bouncing patrons to share the stage with the turntable doctor. Gay rave Discotekka is reserved for Saturdays. The original developers of Mekka imagined that they would control one large space, leasing out the smaller subsidiary rooms to four separate entities, but the plan was scrapped in favour of developing the outer rooms themselves – and Mekka flourishes as a result. The parking situation is a bit rough, so if you can, arrive in something discreet, transportation-wise.
