Lords South Beach
Not for the too flashy or too loud – despite the glitzy gold bar supplied by partner Absolut vodka – the bright, gay (and very straight-friendly) Lords is the first link in what is expected to become a chain of LGBT-oriented properties. According to the manager, the company sought not to offer a blingy resort experience, but rather to duplicate the convivial feeling of staying with some friends in the Hamptons for the weekend. (There are three plunge pools in addition to the beach.)
The posh rooms could be a little more guest-friendly (there’s a lack of good closet space, for one thing) but are amply spaced, comfortable and mod-ish. One of the best aspects of the place, a sexy BHDM-updated 1930s Art Deco building well-situated near coffee shops and boutiques, is the informed, ready, and always animated staff; the other is Lords’ alignment with several charitable organizations.
