Fill up on the ‘fuel for life’ at the Diesel boutique hotel in Miami. South Beach’s only toy-hotel, The Pelican is Diesel’s first hotel venture, featuring 30 themed rooms in the style of the fashion company’s advertising campaigns. Quite when the ‘Me Tarzan, you Vain’ campaign came out, nobody really knows. Designed by Swede Magnus Ehrlad, the rooms are decorated with original furnishings from the ’30s to the ’70s and are given names such as ‘Born in the Stars & Stripes’ and ‘Psychedelic(ate) Girl’; the most popular is Room 212, which is named ‘Best Little Whorehouse’.
There is, however, an eight-person jacuzzi in the $2,500-a-night penthouse, which has three bedrooms and looks like a porn-star’s palace. The main room is overlooked by a circular tropical fish tank six feet across, which is embedded in a $17,000 copper wall. The Pelican’s downfall is that it does not have a pool, but it does provide private sun-loungers on the beach.
