Another find on the sleepy end of Washington Avenue, Miami, the Hotel St. Augustine has the appearance and feel of a spa without any of the actual facilities. Well, that’s not entirely true, since guests can receive a multi-jet shower massage and spend time in a private steam cabin, after which they can don a fluffy robe, practise some aromatherapy and slowly sip a cocktail. All without leaving the comfort of one’s room, or ‘loft’, as they’re dubbed here. Their large maple platform beds look as if they are floating in the rooms, but because of their low placement they’re inviting rather than imposing. Indeed, the Hotel St. Augustine delivers a relaxing experience instead of acting as a transit point for late-night hedonistic activities. For this, it has gained some fanatical respect, and a fan club seduced by rack rates that even those of slender means can embrace.
