Hg2 : The Hedonist

The Victor Hotel

The Hotel Victor opened in February 2005 as one of the trendiest hotels in Miami setting out to attract as many celebs as it possibly could. Before opening, the Hotel Victor hired a ‘Vibe Manager’, Victoria Prado, to ensure that the in-crowd are happy with the music, the lighting and the smell of the hotel during their stay. This does mean, however, that if you are not famous, they probably won’t put on your favourite album for you.

According to Prado, cool people like listening to the beat of artists unknown to the masses, or remixes of 1980s songs. That aside, designer Jacques Garcia, the man behind the Hotel Costes, Paris, and New York’s Spice Market, has steered clear of the Miami minimalism and opted for a large boutiquey feel. The Victor has adopted a jellyfish theme, and there is a fascinating aquarium in the lobby, as well as images of jellyfish projected onto the hotel bar’s giant screen – but luckily the ultra-stylish rimless pool is free of Portuguese men-of-war (unlike the Miami coastline).
