El Palacio de los Jugos
Around since the ‘70s, El Palacio de los Jugos is a firm family favourite in the Flagami neighbourhood – not to mention its seven other Florida locations. Busy and bustling all week long, with kids and couples enjoying the open-air dining space regardless of the weather, El Palacio de los Jugos hasn’t missed a beat in its 30-odd years in operation. Serving the kind of Cuban and Latin food that only your dream grandma makes – hearty, irresistible and undeniably authentic – it’s safe to say that this isn’t the place for those watching their waistlines.
Juicy pork sandwiches, tamales, rice and beans, even lobster, are fixtures on the menu, and all incredibly reasonably priced. The juices, meanwhile, freshly made to order from the huge selection of fruits on offer, are a consistent crowd-pleaser and some of the best in the city; after all, El Palacio de los Jugos does mean “Juice Palace”. And for those in need of a cool down from the humid Miami heat, a drink of cold coconut water, drunk straight from the source – cracked open by the obliging member of staff with a machete – is just the thing.
