Milano
Under the same ownership as the cocktail colossus Roïalto, drinking at Milano has a similar feel but in a slightly smaller industrial space. Countless pockets of retro leather sofas and armchairs are partitioned by bookshelves, bead curtains and foliage, and punctuated with 20th-century antiques and very low statement lighting. rnrnCollections of magazines and trinkets add a personal touch, while Indian bar staff all in white linen djellabas diligently craft amazing cocktails – after you’ve paid for them at the cassa. But even as a pared-down, less eclectic version of Roïalto, there’s still so much detail that it feels like being in a lifestyle superstore.rnrnOpen since spring 2004 in Chinatown and frequented by the local ad execs, Milano has a glamorous, metropolitan vibe to it; its central marble and wood circular bar – the size of a roundabout – comes from a Miami villa. All around is the calming sound of trickling water fountains – until someone trips on one of the many timber sleepers that support the 10-man sofas.
