Hg2 : The Hedonist

Barashka

Unlike so many of Moscow’s Azerbaijani restaurants, Barashka’s decore is restrained and minimalist – baskets of peppers, jars of lemons, and pillows covered in traditional kilim cases provide tasteful splashes of colour against the wooden walls. You won’t find any belly-dancers here; what you will find is a menu with over a dozen pages of delicious Azerbaijani dishes, at refreshingly reasonable prices.

Sip on a complementary pot of thyme tea as you decide between fragrant pilaffs and spicy grilled meats. If you’re in a group of three or more, sharing dishes are available- particularly good is the whole leg of mutton, smoked with herbs and spices. Barashka’s popluarity has meant that in addition to the original restaurant on Petrovka Street, a new location has recently opened on Arbat Street, complete with a breezy outdoor terrace for the summer months.
