Should the desire for Indian food strike you during your trip, then a visit to the Moscow curry house, Maharaja, is essential.
First thing to note is that although the address is Pokrovka, the entrance is in fact down the side street Starosadsky. Down a few steps into a basement, this no frills establishment will definitely transport you somewhere nearer home.
Although it’s owned by an Englishman, the staff are Indian. At first sight, the interior and its furniture look plain and drab, but on closer inspection there are some beautiful items of furniture such as screens, chests and frames that give the place a certain charm.
The food is mouth-watering, and the menu covers the classics as well as a few interesting creations to get the taste-buds going. The portions are generous and must be accompanied by the obligatory Kingfisher or Cobra beer.
