Frederick William Stevens designed Mumbai’s Victoria Terminus Station (now named ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus’ – quite a tongue twister) and Frederick’s Lounge is a cute little café-cum-bar is dedicated to his audacious architectural design.
The décor here fits in well with the views over the courtyard – wicker chairs, low slung and inviting, sit alongside little tables with plenty of chandeliers overhead to add some pizzazz. Frederick’s Lounge has a range of cocktails, coffees, speciality teas and a decent library of single malts on offer.
The rather low-key atmosphere is created by the bar being designed as somewhere for the hotel’s guests to hang out, and less of a destination in itself. Nonetheless, Frederick’s is open through the day, and is always a pleasant and quiet spot for a chilled glass of wine or a coffee. There are also regular ‘Happy Hours’ and a pianist playing making for for good audio landscaping to an evening of cocktails and mini meals.
