A Mumbai institution. Swati Snacks has been serving up Gujarati style snacks to the masses for over 47 years. It is family run and you’d be hard pressed to find a native Mumbaikar who does not know it.
The hand churned roasted almond ice cream is good for a sweet finish, but here it’s all about tucking into street food like Mummy used to make. Be ready to queue, big time, during lunchtime hours. Dal dhokli (a kind of Indian lasagne, cooked with peanuts and chickpea flour) is a good spicy treat as is the paanki (garlicky rice pancakes).
Spotlessly clean, though definitely a no-frills restaurant, the décor is streamlined industrial design with long steel benches and a granite floor. This little eatery must feature on any respectable foodie’s travel itinerary.
