Restaurants in Mumbai may come and go, but Olive has stood the test of time to become a Mumbai must-eat. Everyone knows it and they’d be lying if they say they didn’t. But while it’s much-loved and much-lauded, it’s undeniably pricey by Mumbai standards and doesn’t have the luxury cachet of some of the hotel restaurants.
Food is predominantly Mediterranean – the wood-fired pizzas are excellent – and there is a very good drinks list to wash everything down with. White rattan chairs, creeping vines and indoor/outdoor seating hint at Greece and Spain, but once the crowds arrive there’s no mistaking that this is India. Filling up quickly with Bollywood beauties, the odd cricket mega-star and their starry-eyed entourages, no stay in Mumbai is complete without a languid lunch or decadent dinner here.
Go for the Sunday brunch and stay all afternoon – much-needed Bloody Mary in-hand.
