Out of the Blue
Alternative places to eat in Mumbai are few and far between, but we’ve done the legwork. For when you absolutely cannot face another biriyani, this place should be your first port of call. Offering a wide range of fondues and risottos, this restaurant likes to do things a little differently. If nothing else, it certainly lives up to its motto – ‘something is always happening’ – which means you may stumble upon an artists’ night or a mass candlelit dinner on any given night.
Indeed, the team here is very active when it comes to offering locals and visitors something different to the usual sit, eat, leave recipe. rnThe restaurant itself is a fairly casual affair, with both indoor and outdoor seating and a crowd of fashionable young locals. Food-wise, sizzlers are very popular – you can create your own with chicken, fish and veggies and top it off with Zingara sauce.
There is a valet service, too, as well as ‘low carb’ options for weight-watchers, a Jain menu and, oddly, a very large list of branded cigarettes for sale. Try the ‘Masala Mafia’ – an Indian version of Italian pasta – for something completely different.
