Super-sleek design from hip Tokyo firm Super Potato makes San Qi (pronounced ‘Saan Chee’) one of the coolest places to eat in Mumbai. The restaurant is split-level, connected by an exposed staircase, and has a fiery, open wok counter as well as a tandoor station, while upstairs there’s more of a zen-vibe with sushi and teppanyaki tables.
Book ahead here as it’s nearly always busy with business types, jet-setters, lunching families and smooching couples. Don’t dismiss the menu as having sold out to ‘multi-cuisine’, which is tempting to do on first sight, as while there are Japanese, Chinese, Thai and Indian dishes up for grabs, all are cooked to perfection by grade-one chefs. The Sake-based mojitos and green tea ice-cream are stand-outs.
