Many characters have downed cocktails whilst sitting in the slowly spinning seats of the Carousel Bar inside the Hotel Monteleone. Faulkner was a frequent hotel guest. Tennessee Williams often passed through. Even Edwin Edwards, famous as a resident of both the governor’s mansion and several federal prisons, used to spend time at the hotel. The barstools, brightly painted with circus animals, make four rotations an hour under the gilded carousel canopy. A stage in an adjacent room is the setting for tuneful piano music and light entertainment.
