Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop
According to legend, the pirate Jean Lafitte and his brother had their urban headquarters here at the site of Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop before they fought alongside the Americans in the Battle of New Orleans in 1815. That may be myth, but the building is certainly that old. Even after a recent renovation, the dim, atmospheric bar looks and feels ancient. Only candles, and a frozen drink machine behind the bar, light this tavern. To break the serious mood, a piano player belts out all the cheese hits from Prince to Elton John.
