Hg2 : The Hedonist

Parkway Bakery

Jay Nix lovingly restored Parkway Bakery twice. The bakery, which opened in 1922, had been shuttered for eight years when Nix, a contractor by trade, restored the property. After the levees broke in 2005, he did it all over again. Nix filled Parkway with his collection of restaurant memorabilia and made it a mini-museum of New Orleans dining. What keeps the cash register ringing, however, are the fine po’ boys, including a roast beef po’ boy that many consider the best in town. One of the few lunch spots in a heavily damaged area, Parkway is crowded with construction workers at midday. In the evening, expect to meet a funky, friendly group of families and neighbours.
