Maple Leaf Bar
No trip to New Orleans is really complete without catching Rebirth Brass Band on a Tuesday night at the Maple Leaf Bar. The funky young group is at the forefront of the musicians who have infused the old New Orleans street sounds with traces of funk, R&B, and even hip-hop. Every Tuesday, a full house crams into a space that’s barely bigger than a walk-in closet. Other popular performers include organist Joe Krown, bluesman Walter “Wolfman” Washington, and Meters founder George Porter Jr.. The Maple Leaf probably hasn’t been mopped in a decade, but the grunge doesn’t keep musicians and movie stars away from this New Orleans landmark. Bruce Springsteen once jumped on stage to jam with a local band. Jude Law was recently seen brooding in a corner.
