Southern Food Museum
New Orleanians love to talk about food and obsess over their own history – which is what the Southern Food and Beverage Museum does best. In fact it’s a wonder no one opened a food museum here before. This airy space at the Uptown end of the Riverwalk Marketplace covers dining and drinking across the entire South. Sometimes, though, the lengthy explanations next to the displays make you wonder if the curators thought they were hired to write a book. Inside the food museum, however, is the affiliated Museum of the American Cocktail, a fascinating and well-presented exhibit on the fine art of getting drunk. The cases are filled with ancient bottles, old tiki glasses, and even a still.
