Even men who scoff at hair salons fork over large sums for a fancy haircut at Aidan Gill. The barbershop, located in the Lower Garden District with a new, second outpost next to Harrah’s, feels like a clubhouse for grown men. The magazine racks are filled with Esquire and Playboy. Sit down for a cut, and the barber (never a “stylist”) offers a complimentary pint of Guinness or a shot of Irish whiskey. Aidan Gill also gives old-fashioned straight-razor shaves. The shop at the front sells accessories-flasks, cuff links, and shaving brushes and cups-fit for a man who still knows the purpose of talc powder. Even if you’re not that guy, or even if you’re a gal, Aidan Gill will have something to give you a touch of old-school sophistication.
