Hg2 : The Hedonist

Bemelmans Bar

If you want to go drinking in this New York watering hole, loosen your tie and settle back with a brandy as choice pianists and cabaret performers set the night to music. You’ll want to look a little polished, just to fit in with the fat billfold crowd, but the class-act servers will put a smile on your face no matter how you arrive. Famous for its Central Park animal mural by famed writer and illustrator Ludwig Bemelmans (author of Madeleine), this spot is a romantic slice of clubby, old New York – and the cocktail list, crafted by master mixologist Brian Van Flanders, will please even the most snobbish of cocktail purists. Try the Gin-gin Mule – gin with ginger beer, fresh mint, and lime juice – or a champagne-topped mojito with bitters, the Old Cuban.
