Hg2 : The Hedonist

Pete’s Tavern

One of several New York bars that claims the title of “oldest in the city”, Pete’s is undoubtedly one of the oldest. The first official drinking establishment – Healy’s – opened here in 1864, and their current house brew, 1864 Ale, is a nod to the early New York pints poured here. The decor is pretty much what you’d expect for someplace this old: eclectic and old school. Hundreds of liquor bottles teeter behind the long mahogany bar, which runs the length of the bar and tables are clad in red-and-white checked tablecloths, nodding to the menu here, which is classic New York Italian. Just sidle up to the bar for a whiskey neat and imagine drinking with O. Henry: he was a regular here.
