Hg2 : The Hedonist

Sakagura

Those who take their sake seriously agree that this tranquil jewel box – concealed in a midtown office building’s basement – is one of the most authentic places to drink in New York. Hundreds of fine sakes are available, though you’re probably best off giving a vague description to one of the affable servers and taking their suggestions. The menu features sashimi rather than sushi, which best suits your sipping, and the banquettes are reserved for diners. Its traditional Japanese décor really takes you on a journey, and you don’t feel like you’re in Japan Land at Epcot Center. It offers great lunch specials, if you feel like getting your drink on midday, though expect to shell out some yen after the sun goes down.
