Hg2 : The Hedonist

Café Habana

Like other places to eat in New York, the hefty crowds and cooler-than-thou attitude of some of the clientele might inspire hot-headedness, this much-loved dive with its throwback chrome exterior and pleasantly efficient waitstaff will easily win you over once you’ve waited your turn and settled into a tiny booth. Cheap, tasty, and true to its Mexican and Cuban roots (it is family-run and modeled after the original Cafe Habana in Mexico City), Habana satiates a pretty gathering of well-heeled boutique shoppers and devoted locals, offering tempting takes on Cuban pork sandwiches, cheese-dusted Mexican grilled corn, and marinated skirt steak. To prepare for a full day of chic shopping, stroll in between 9am and 11am for huevos con chorizo<or pancakes with seasonal fruit alongside honest-to-goodness, high-octane coffee.
