Hg2 : The Hedonist

The Box

Luring a frothy mix of Manhattan’s chic set – not to mention a host of celebs and rock stars – with its lush, vaudevillian charms, this long-abandoned sign factory has sprung into new life with the help of nightlife star Serge Becker and a theatrical crew of investors that includes Simon Hammerstein, the grandson of theater legend Oscar Hammerstein. The result: an energetic, sexy bi-level space – complete with a stage door that opens onto trendy Freeman Alley – that’s dedicated to posh dining and old-school entertainment like Follies-style dancers, balladeers, circus performances, and ‘oddities’. Of course, it’s basically a throwback supper club sporting some newfangled hooks – namely top-tier DJs and a menu of contemporary bites. But mainly it will be remembered as a decadent homage to the past, right down to the warn layers of wallpaper.
