Understated enough not to impose itself on its bustling Tribeca block, and clever enough to captivate high-minded travelers who consider anywhere they are to be somewhere special, the handsome Smyth is the newest of the infamous boutique hotels in New York by Jason Pomeranc, the man behind 60 Thompson, Gild Hall, 6 Columbus, and Thompson LES. Considered ’boutique’ at 100 rooms, Smyth is choc-a-bloc with charms, exuding a spare sense of luxury conceived by renowned design firm Yabu Pushelberg and BBG. Adorned in unique materials and influences, the lobby features elegant Brazilian wood furniture and gorgeous, unassuming vignettes with cozy banquette seating. Upstairs, deep wood accents, Sferra linens, Kiehl’s toiletries, sleek mod furniture, and snacks by Dean and Deluca and Eli Zabar give the loft-style rooms plenty of panache, plus the bathrooms are downright gorgeous. All the better, top restaurateur Frederick Lesort is at the helm of its restaurant, Jour Et Nuit.
