Hg2 : The Hedonist

The Maritime Hotel

The cruise ship theme that pulls together handsome hotel in New York’s Chelsea/Meatpacking District border might be a bit much for more buttoned-up, gimmick-resistant travelers. But its attentive staff, fine amenities (500 count sheets, flat-screen television, bath products by C.O. Bigelow), and prime location more than satisfy the chic set that return to it time and again. Although the Maritime is often overshadowed by its pricier boutique neighbor The Gansevoort, weary travelers will most likely find it gracious, welcoming, and full of charms – think: porthole windows; the al fresco, South Beach-style event space Cabanas; the striking Hiro Ballroom, plucked from the imagination of a kung-fu movie’s set designer; and two fine dining establishments – the fashionable rustic Italian La Bottega and chef Tadashi Ono’s glitzy Matsuri.
