Hg2 : The Hedonist

Jean-Georges

Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s elegant flagship eatery is always a treat when dining out in New York, and a great place to be treated to, says Heat author Bill Buford, “After all, genius isn’t cheap.” Chef Michael Lomonaco agrees: “If it’s my choice, then let’s go in style – the food, the service and the wine list, the décor and the Central Park location all conspire to transport you to the other side of Heaven, creating an everlasting and forever memorable dining experience.” Every bite here holds a little bit of drama – a smooth texture followed by a cool sensation apexed by a burst of sweet then tart then sweet again, like the genius combination of licorice, pear and lemon with decadent, roasted sweetbreads. It’s as if the man is conducting hundreds of little orchestras on each and every plate and it is why, 17 restaurants later (as of this writing, anyway.) the shine hasn’t worn off a single one. But still, this, his namesake, is the one to beat all.
