The Polo Bar
Sometimes gazing at the latest Ralph Lauren ad doesn’t quite cut it. You want to live in that snapshot of classic moneyed Americana. Be that effortlessly stylish. Go to beach parties and polo matches and step lightly into that world of elegance and class. Unfortunately, that’s not always possible. But dining at The Polo Bar – a restaurant in Ralph Lauren’s global stable – in Midtown Manhattan? Now that’s possible.
From the polished wood to the barware, the restaurant and bar gleam. The lighting is soft. And there are a fair number of equestrian elements throughout, just look to the saddle leather and horsey art. It’s got classic NYC style and it’s more than a little compelling. And that’s just at first glance.
Looking a bit deeper – that is to say, at the menus – and the bewitchment continues. There’s shrimp cocktail, grilled lobster salad, bone-in rib eye with hand-cut fries; the dishes suit The Polo Bar’s vintage NYC aesthetic down to the ground. The food here aims to please, and it succeeds. For those not looking to indulge in a sit-down affair, meanwhile, the bar serves a curated selection of dishes, everything from oysters and caviar to mini crab croquettes, and a tantalising and comprehensive drinks list.
The Polo Bar does indeed offer a moment of living Ralph Lauren-style, you’ll just need to look the part to partake. There’s a dress code here and it’s “proper” (read: smart-elegant). So grab a jacket and polish up those pumps. A night at The Polo Bar beckons.
