Ba’ta’clan Café
This lovely café/bar screams comfort, with its large, battered, brown leather sofas and heated terrace, where locals come to chat for hours over one coffee (perhaps because by local standards it’s a rather expensive coffee).
Its style is a deliberate mish-mash with an incongruous but interesting mix of pagoda and classical Greco-style columns (that apparently used to belong to an old theatre), yellow walls with substandard art works and an absolutely immense central bar manned by friendly and trendy staff.
As a design ethos, it doesn’t really work, but for whatever reason it summons a smile rather than a ‘tut-tut’. Head here for a daytime coffee or to munch on a late-night croque against the backdrop of an eclectic soundtrack, which mirrors the club nights that take place in the concert-club venue of the same name.
