The urge for Polynesian might not come over people in Paris that often. But it will when they hear about Dirty Dick. Cheeky of name and flamboyant in style, this bar serves up great drinks with a side of tropical flair. There’s rattan furniture, totems and tiki masks. Palm fronds on the wallpaper. And the lighting’s as cheerful as the clientele who pile through the doors for Mai Tais.
Rum abounds here, as you might expect (there are dozens to choose from). It’s found in the usual cocktails, as well as a few unusual ones – like the much-Instagrammed Scorpion Bowl. But that volcanic beauty doesn’t just use rum, there’s cognac and gin in the mix too, along with, well, flames. You can see why this cocktail might cause a bit of a sting the next morning. But you won’t care in the moment. There are too many great cocktails to request from the tropical-shirt-wearing bartenders. And too many great memories to create, and then promptly forget.
Dirty Dick is retro. And it’s more than a little fun. Find yourself beached here for the evening, amidst all the bamboo and the kitsch, and you’ll have a great time. You’ll probably find yourself crying “Aloha!” more than once – in greeting to your next drink, not in farewell to the joint. Once you’ve gone tiki at Dirty Dick, you’ll never look back.
